Early this summer, the MiCAFE Network sent out a blog indicating a reported concern that some Farmers markets would not be able to accept the Bridge Card as a payment type. We have recently received updates and this is no longer a concern as the State of Michigan has worked to resolve this issue. Bridge card use is expected to continue at all Farmers markets that accept this payment type.
As previously reported to the MiCAFE Network Partners, the vendor that runs the technology which allows for the use of a Bridge Card decided to cease services and thus creating a concern that Bridge cards at some Farmers markets could not be used. Fortunately, the State of Michigan has negotiated with the vendor to allow for usage of that technology through February 2019, allowing the State of Michigan time to find a reasonable replacement for this technology.
The MiCAFE Network continues to encourage the use of MIFMA.org to find local Farmers markets that accept the Bridge Card. More information on this recent press release from the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is found here.
