Coordinated Questionnaire – Medical Expenses Help

Medical Expenses

Why are medical expenses important?

The 60+ and disabled population get a special set of rules for SNAP, one of them is that they can submit medical expenses as a deduction. All expenses that are outstanding, reoccurring, or recently paid can be listed in this section.

What documentation is required for a medical expense?

A medical or dental bill is always useful to document an expense. A receipt alone isn’t enough for a prescription, as it doesn’t show the applicants name. Most pharmacies will provide a printed list of prescriptions with costs and the applicants name, and this is acceptable documentation. In addition, for medical supplies it is helpful to have a doctor’s note to have DHHS add these as expenses. Medical supplies can include diabetic supplies, oxygen, incontinence supplies, etc.
